Luis Pinedo, gallery manager for Hot Mango Pickle Gallery, recently partnered with artist, Lisa Knoop, and RI Labs to create an interactive Art exhibit using QR Codes.

Luis created a series of iCandy cards that linked to a video we made of Lisa's art.  We took jpegimages of Lisa's artwork from her website, and created a YouTube video using iMovie on the Macintosh that could be played back on an iPhone. 

YouTube Movie Steps: Total Time approx 20 min

1. Right click on selected artwork from Lisa's website, www.lisaknoop.com
2. Import them into iMovie.
3. Take text from Inheritance brochure and create a narration.
4. Organize images, using the 'Ken Burns' effect and time it to fit the length of the narration.
5. Select Share menu option on iMovie for YouTube  with the 'size to publish' set to Mobile.

 

Mobile Version of Lisa's website: Total Time: approx 30 min

One thing we've noticed from all our QR Code Twitter brethren is that they make the QR Codes but don't really consider the mobile experience.  (See Ralph Polo Lauren and the Louis Vuitton QR code examples  - they go to websites designed from the desktop, not for mobile phones.)

We wanted gallery attendees to have a positive, appropriate QR code experience on their mobile phones.  Here's what we did:

1. Create a free (Mofuse for Blogs) account on  www.mofuse.com 
2. Using the Grab utiltiy on the Mac, we took a selection capture of the artwork from Lisa's homepage.  We used this image as the logo for the mobile version.  We resize the jpg image so it was 320 pixels wide and proportionally tall.
3. We uploaded the resized image on Mofuse as the logo image.
4. Next we edited the home page from the Mofuse menu option.
5. We entered the text on Inheritance from the gallery brochure.
6. We also added a link to our YouTube video.
7. We saved the whole thing and previewed on the screen and on our iphone to make sure everything worked.

Create the QR Code Art Cards: Total time 10 min

1. We went back to the www.lisaknoop.com site to select some artwork and downloaded the jpgs onto our Mac.
2. We launched iCandy.
3. We launched a web browser and went to the YouTube site where our video was.
4. We drag and dropped the YouTube URL to iCandy. 
5. We copied and pasted an art image to associate with the QR Code.
6. We printed the completed work on 4x6 glossy photo stock on a Canon photo printer.
7. We repeated the process again, this time creating a QR Code of the mobile version of the LisaKnoop site (http://lisaknoop.mofuse.mobi/)
